The George and Lisa Zakhem Kahlil Gibran Chair for Values and Peace is pleased to announce news from Gombe State University in Nigeria.
Kahlil Gibran’s legacy lies in his longing for peace and accord among all the people of the earth and the wisdom he imparted on the oneness of humanity; a philosophy Professor Aliyu Yakubu Abdulkadir has incorporated into his curriculum at Gombe State University. Professor Abdulkadir is the author of a collection of poetry titled, The Banquet (2017) that was purely inspired by Gibran’s The Prophet. He has raised awareness regarding Gibran’s work to over 500 students and colleagues by incorporating The Prophet and its universal message of peace for all of humanity into his courses, including theatrical ones. For this reason, Professor Abdulkadir calls for more study of Gibran’s poetry in Nigeria, a country with a history of violence, hoping to manifest more of Gibran’s vision for peace all across Nigeria and Africa at large.
We look forward to exploring Gibran and Peace further alongside Professor Abdulkadir and his particularly pertinent vision of Peace.
